Living the Mission: Service and Community at Cumorah
At Cumorah, we are not only committed to ensuring that our students achieve their academic goals, but we also strive to instill values that help them positively impact their lives, careers, homes, and communities.
This aligns with our mission—to assist individuals in their desire to follow Jesus Christ and make a meaningful difference in the world around them.
A Call to Serve: Cleaning the Forest
This past weekend, some of our students participated in a special service project:
Cleaning a nearby forest and collecting wood to be used in our facilities, such as the gym and fireplace at Cumorah.
The day began with excitement. We gathered at the school, loaded into two vans, and set off for a small forest not far from campus.
The weather was perfect—clear skies and a refreshing breeze that made us even more eager to help. Daniel Cano, Cumorah’s driver, and the maintenance team were already there, ready to guide us and ensure we were properly dressed for the task.
Teamwork in Action
What started as a small group of 15 people who reacted to a message in the chat quickly grew to over 20 participants. It was incredible to see classmates and staff members outside their usual roles, dressed casually but united by the same purpose—to serve.
We divided into two teams: the girls gathered small branches. The boys carried larger logs that would later be used to keep Cumorah’s gym and fireplace warm.
Despite the physical effort, the energy remained high. Caleb, our student from Portugal and SLI (Student Leadership Intern), brought his speaker. His international playlist kept the atmosphere lively, making the work feel easier and more enjoyable.
More Than Just a Service Project
Beyond the service itself, this experience strengthened our sense of community. We worked efficiently, helped one another, and made sure no one was left behind.
I can confidently say that our students not only had a productive time helping out. They also enjoyed the beauty of nature and built stronger friendships. It was a day of hard work, teamwork, and gratitude—a true reflection of what it means to be part of Cumorah.
