Serve in Your Community: Esther and Isaiah Service Project

One of the most transformative things you can do is serve in your community. At Cumorah Academy, we believe that acts of kindness—no matter how small—can have eternal impact. Service is at the heart of what we teach, and our students are discovering that their willingness to uplift others leads not only to stronger communities but also to deeper personal growth.

Many people wait for the “right moment” to help others. They assume they need more money, more time, or more talent to make a difference. But what if we told you that none of those are prerequisites for changing someone’s life?

Through our unique curriculum, which combines spiritual development, leadership training, and real-world experience, students learn that serving is not just a nice thing to do—it’s essential to becoming who they’re meant to be. And the best part? They don’t have to wait until they graduate. They can begin right now.

You Don’t Need to Be Extraordinary to Make a Difference

There’s a lie many of us believe: “I’m not enough to help anyone.” Whether it stems from fear, pride, or insecurity, this mindset can prevent us from stepping into meaningful moments. At Cumorah Academy, we help students break free from that limiting belief.

We teach them that the desire to serve is more important than the tools or resources you start with. What matters is your willingness to notice others and act with love. When students put this into practice, they often experience what we like to call “celestial moments”—times when heaven touches earth through simple acts of kindness.

One way our students recently experienced this was through a hands-on service project at a local food bank in the Czech Republic. Groups from two of our houses—Esther House and Isaiah House—dedicated full days to organizing, sorting, and distributing food to those in need. The experience turned out to be more than just physical labor. It was soul work.

Serve in Your Community: What Our Students Learned

When students from Esther and Isaiah Houses arrived at the food bank, they didn’t fully know what to expect. But as they started organizing fruit, packing boxes, and preparing meals for families, something shifted. Conversations turned into laughter. Repetitive tasks became acts of love. Strangers began to feel like neighbors.

Here’s what six of our students had to say about their experience:

Mabel – Esther House (Peru):

“Participating in this project made me feel happy because I can add it to my resume and show the skills I’ve developed. Also, serving brings me joy. I’ve realized that when you forget about yourself, you grow in love for those around you.”

Mabel’s reflection captures the dual nature of service. On one hand, it benefits the receiver. On the other, it transforms the giver. Through selfless action, our students are learning more about empathy, leadership, and spiritual maturity.

Pedro – Isaiah House (Brazil):

“The more I participate in projects like this, the more I realize the impact these people have on my life. Serving is something everyone should do.”

Pedro’s words reflect how serving others has a way of changing us from the inside out. It opens our eyes and softens our hearts.

Elaine – Esther House (Guatemala):

“Thank you, Cumorah, for letting me be part of this experience.”

Sometimes, the best experiences are the ones that humble us and remind us of what truly matters. For Elaine, this project was a moment of gratitude—an opportunity to live out her values and grow in character.

Lehi – Isaiah House (Spain):

“I learned more about how to serve people and feel truly blessed for this opportunity. It’s another step in building meaningful connections.”

Serving is not only about giving—it’s about connecting. For Lehi, this project offered a rare chance to build community in a real, tangible way.

Ingrid – Esther House (Brazil):

“Being here, learning through this incredible experience with these amazing people, makes me so happy. I’m excited to continue having more moments like this.”

Ingrid’s excitement speaks volumes. One act of service often leads to a lifetime of service. Once students discover the joy of helping others, they rarely want to stop.

Sao – Esther House (Japan):

“We organized the fruit and had to pack it into boxes. It was really nice because we felt connected with the people in the Czech Republic.”

Even simple tasks can forge powerful connections. For Sao, serving at the food bank helped her feel part of something bigger—a global community that transcends borders and languages.
