Have you ever found yourself searching for an opportunity that could completely change your direction in life?
Maybe you know you want something different, but you are not exactly sure what that looks like. You may have goals, dreams, and ambitions, yet still feel stuck between where you are and where you want to be.
That is exactly what happened to Guilherme de Oliveira and Anna Isabel when they decided to come to Cumorah Academy.
They came to campus looking for an environment where they could grow, improve their abilities, meet new people, and gain a clearer sense of direction. What they discovered was more than an educational experience. They discovered the importance of building a life vision.

Why So Many Young Adults Feel Lost
Today, young adults have more possibilities than ever before.
You can study almost anything, work from almost anywhere, travel internationally, start a business, develop new skills, and build relationships with people from completely different cultures.
Yet, having more choices does not always make life easier.
When everything feels possible, knowing which direction to take can become surprisingly difficult.
Many young adults feel uncertain about their careers, relationships, education, finances, and personal development. They want to make progress, but they do not always have a clear picture of where they want to go.
A 2025 survey found that only 40% of Americans entered 2026 with clearly defined goals. Another 36% had broader intentions, while 20% thought about goals without formally setting them.
This highlights an important problem: wanting a better future is not always enough. You need a direction that can guide your decisions.
That is where building a life vision can make a difference.

Guilherme and Anna Found Their Opportunity at Cumorah Academy
For Guilherme and Anna, coming to Cumorah Academy became an opportunity to step outside their usual environment and invest in themselves.
Guilherme explains:
“I chose Cumorah Academy because I knew it would be a place in which I would improve my skills.”
For Anna, the international environment was equally important:
“We’re thrilled to be surrounded by people from different cultures in a different country.”
Their experience also required a difficult decision. Anna had to temporarily pause her university studies to attend the program.
“I had to stop university for a while to come here. But I knew the experience here would be worth it.”
Meanwhile, Guilherme knew he was looking for something that could help him move forward:
“I was searching for something to improve my abilities.”
These experiences reflect something many young adults can relate to. Sometimes, finding direction requires stepping away from your routine and giving yourself space to think about what you truly want.

Building a Life Vision Starts With the Big Picture
One of the most important lessons Anna learned at Cumorah Academy was the value of creating a life vision.
“Cumorah Academy taught me the importance of having a life vision and tailoring your goals around that vision.”
This idea can completely change the way you approach goal setting.
Instead of asking, “What do I want to accomplish this month?” you can start by asking, “What kind of life am I trying to build?”
Your goals should support your vision rather than exist separately from it.
For example, if your vision involves becoming an entrepreneur, your goals might include developing business skills, connecting with mentors, launching a project, and learning to manage finances.
If your vision involves building an international career, your goals might include improving your English, developing professional skills, networking, and gaining international experience.
Your vision gives your goals a destination. Your goals give your vision a direction.

Try the Odyssey Plan
If you want to start building a life vision today, you do not need to have everything figured out.
One useful exercise comes from Bill Burnett and Dave Evans, authors of Designing Your Life. Known as the Odyssey Plan, the exercise encourages you to imagine different versions of your future.
Start with these two questions:
1. What does my life look like five years from now if I continue on my current path?
Think about your career, education, relationships, location, lifestyle, personal growth, and daily routine.
What happens if you continue making decisions similar to the ones you are making today?
2. What does my life look like five years from now if I take a completely different path?
Imagine that your current plan changes completely.
What would you do if you were not limited by your current expectations? Where might you live? What would you study? What kind of work would you pursue? Who would you become?
Write your answers down. Do not judge them too quickly.
The goal is not to predict your future perfectly. The goal is to discover possibilities you may not have considered before.
Your Life Vision Can Change
Building a life vision does not mean creating a rigid plan that you must follow forever.
Life changes. Your priorities change. New opportunities appear. You learn more about yourself.
Your vision can evolve with you.
That is why guidance, mentorship, and community can become so valuable. At Cumorah Academy, students have the opportunity to work with mentors who can help them examine their goals, identify opportunities, and create a clearer direction for their future.
Sometimes, the first step toward a better future is simply giving yourself permission to imagine one.
You can start today. Write down your two Odyssey Plan questions. Think deeply about your answers. Then ask yourself what small action you can take this week to move closer to the life you want.
And if you are looking for an environment where you can develop your skills, meet people from different cultures, learn from mentors, and begin building a clearer vision for your future, Cumorah Academy is the place for you! Apply right now and join us for an unforgettable three months.
