Luã’s Story

Author of Our Faith

The scriptures contain many titles of the Lord Jesus Christ. He has been called the Messiah, the Good Shepherd, the Lamb of God, and many other sacred titles. However, other titles have yet to be discovered by most people. In the book of Hebrews, the Apostle Paul describes the Savior as the “author and consumer of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2). What does Paul mean when describing the Savior as the Author of our faith?

The word ‘author’ is mostly attributed to writers and creators of any creative work. When Paul names the Savior as the author of our faith, he intends to invite us to let Him be the author of our lives. Sister Camille N. Johnson shares her vision:

Why do we want the Savior to be the author and the finisher of our stories? Because He knows our potential perfectly, He will take us to places we never imagined ourselves.

Our dear friend Luã, our student from Brazil, believes in that promise. He and his wife took a leap of faith and embarked on a journey full of discoveries at Cumorah Academy. At his core, Luã has never doubted that the Savior would help him achieve his potential.

Sacrifices for Our Dreams

An unknown author once said:

“Let us sacrifice our today so our children may have a better tomorrow.”

Luã and his wife, Gleyce, left their homeland, Brazil, only carrying a few bags and a lot of faith. He expressed his concerns about joining Cumorah: “The idea [of entering the program] seemed impossible. They wanted to hear the words: ‘You have been accepted.’”

A few days later, the long-awaited words finally came. They trusted the Lord, fasted, and prayed that a miracle would come. However, the challenges were just beginning. Luã said that many things started to happen to try to block their travel. He and Gleyce have been married for four years and starting their family.

After much pondering and prayer, they had a prompting to keep the travel. But the cost would be high for this new couple. “We noticed we couldn’t afford our house during our period here. So we had to give up our house and move our furniture to my parents’ home. It was heartbreaking,” Luã shares tenderly. This was not an easy decision for anyone, especially a new couple starting their life together.

Developing Their Potential

Such experiences before joining on campus have shaped the way Luã and Gleyce would face their experience during the semester. They decided to start this adventure because they firmly believed that this sacrifice would pay off eventually. Luã applied for the Coding Class. Primarily, his goal after returning home is to work remotely for an international company.

“I applied for the Coding Class because I believe it will be good for our family,” he says. Also, there was one other topic that impacted Luã: the Life Vision assignment. Every student who steps on campus must fulfill this task not for grading. In fact, this Life Vision assignment is to be a hallmark and personal compass for them after they graduate.

“This assignment was important to me. It taught me how we need to plan our lives for now and for the future, break them into steps, and strive to achieve each one of them.” Luã and Gleyce are enjoying their time as the semester comes to an end. In each class and every interaction with mentors, they are learning the skills to expand their potential and attain their dreams.

The Lord Is At the Helm – Faith to Follow Him

The decision to join Cumorah Academy is only the beginning for Gleyce and Luã. Even though it seemed unlikely that this would happen, they decided to trust the Lord and act in faith. “Living in another country, studying English, learning coding, everything seemed quite impossible,” Luã admits. But now they’re here, they know they can do hard things and attain higher dreams.

There are many Luãs and Gleyces out there, dreamers looking for a doorway to a new world of opportunity and hope. We’re proud to be a part of their story, and they will carry all these memories and teachings to those whom they come across.

Undoubtedly, those who have faith in the Lord and let Him be part of their story, those who let Him be the author of their life, then they will find out what a meaningful life is like. They will let Him be at the helm and conduct them to higher places they never dreamed of.
