This week, our visiting mentors focused on teaching these principles to our students at Cumorah Academy.
Mike Jacox and Lori Jacox traveled from the United States to share lessons from their experiences in leadership, family, business, and personal growth. Their classes inspired students to think differently about success and leadership.
“Space: The Final Frontier”
In 1969, the Apollo 11 mission became one of the most important moments in human history when astronauts landed on the Moon for the very first time. Millions of people around the world watched the historic event live on television.
One of those viewers was Mike Jacox.
As a child, Mike became fascinated with space exploration. Watching the Moon landing sparked a passion that eventually shaped his future. Over time, he also developed a strong interest in nuclear energy and science.
Eventually, he transformed that passion into a career.
This is one of the clearest examples of being mission-driven. Mike did not simply admire great achievements. He allowed inspiration to shape his goals and future decisions.
Together, Mike and Lori worked to build a meaningful life centered on purpose and family.
Lori originally wanted to become a doctor. However, as life progressed, she chose to dedicate much of her energy to raising children and strengthening her family. Their story showed students that success can take many forms and that leadership also begins at home.

During their classes, Mike and Lori shared an important insight about leadership:

Ego, pride, and selfishness can easily damage relationships, opportunities, and long term success. When people become too focused on themselves, they lose sight of the bigger picture.
Mission-driven leaders choose humility instead.
