Following Your Dreams Together: Walter and Rocio’s Journey at Cumorah Academy

June 26, 2026  •  Author: Fernando Ferreira

What happens when faith, preparation, and opportunity come together at the right moment?

Sometimes, life places us at a crossroads where a single decision can change everything. Looking back, Walter Stamm and Rocio Ríos from Buenos Aires, Argentina, can clearly see one of those defining moments in their lives: their decision to attend Cumorah Academy.

They arrived at Cumorah Academy during the Fall 2025 semester seeking growth, direction, and new opportunities. What they found was much more than professional development. They found confidence, purpose, meaningful connections, and the courage to pursue a future they had only imagined.

Today, they are living in Montevideo, Uruguay, building a new life together and embracing opportunities they once prayed for.

Searching for Something More

Before attending Cumorah Academy, Walter and Rocio were each facing different challenges.

Walter had already established himself professionally, but he felt stuck.

“I was already established in my professional path, but I felt I had hit a plateau. I knew that to take my career to the next level, I needed to broaden my skill set and develop a more global leadership mindset.”

He was searching for an environment that would help him bridge the gap between where he was and where he wanted to be.

For Rocio, the challenge was less about career advancement and more about direction.

“My life felt like it was moving forward, but without a clear sense of purpose. I was making progress, yet I lacked a defined north star to guide my decisions.”

Although both were moving forward in life, they felt there was something more waiting for them. They wanted greater clarity, stronger leadership skills, and a deeper understanding of their purpose.

That search eventually led them to Cumorah Academy.

A Leap of Faith

Walter and Rocio first heard about Cumorah Academy through a close friend from Brazil who had attended a previous semester.

Seeing the transformation in their friend inspired them to learn more.

Together, they decided to apply for the Fall 2025 semester and focus their studies on Leadership and English.

They chose those areas intentionally.

They wanted to strengthen their professional profiles, improve their communication skills, and develop the confidence needed to succeed in an increasingly global world.

What began as an educational opportunity soon became something much bigger.

At Cumorah Academy, students are encouraged to think beyond professional success. They learn how leadership, faith, service, and personal growth work together to create meaningful lives.

For Walter and Rocio, that perspective would become one of the most valuable lessons of their entire experience.

When Answers Come in Unexpected Ways

One of the most unforgettable moments of their semester happened during the final weeks of the program.

Walter received an offer to become a Software Engineer for an international company. It was a remarkable opportunity, but it came with a significant challenge: relocating to Uruguay.

The decision would affect both of their lives.

While excited about the opportunity, they spent many weeks praying and seeking guidance about what they should do.

Then something unexpected happened.

During the Academy trip to Vienna, they met the incoming mentors for the following week, the Powells.

The conversation started simply.

The Powells noticed Walter carrying his mate and approached him. As they talked, they discovered that the Powells had lived in Uruguay for many years because of their own professional journey.

For Walter and Rocio, the timing felt extraordinary.

“We felt immediately that this wasn’t a coincidence, but a profound sign.”

After hearing their story, the Powells offered encouragement and support. Later, when Walter officially secured the position, they even connected the couple with families they knew in Uruguay.

That experience became a powerful reminder that Cumorah Academy is more than a school.

It is a community.

It is a place where mentors genuinely care about students and where relationships often become lifelong sources of support and guidance.

Learning to Become Givers

While classes and professional development helped them grow, some of the most important lessons came from a simple principle they learned early in the semester.

The principle was to become a giver.

Looking back, Walter and Rocio describe this mindset as one of the greatest gifts they received at Cumorah Academy.

They learned that leadership is not about status, recognition, or personal achievement.

Leadership is about serving others.

“You don’t have to walk the path alone. There are so many people ready and willing to help you succeed, provided you are open to building genuine connections.”

That lesson transformed how they think about success.

Instead of asking what they could gain from opportunities, they began asking how they could contribute.

Instead of focusing only on personal advancement, they learned to see leadership as a chance to lift others.

This shift in perspective continues to shape every decision they make today.

Building a New Life in Uruguay

Since graduating from Cumorah Academy, Walter and Rocio have entered an exciting new chapter.

They now live in Montevideo, Uruguay, where Walter has begun his new role as a Software Engineer.

Like any major life transition, moving to a new country has brought challenges. There have been logistical obstacles, adjustments, and moments of uncertainty.

Yet despite those difficulties, they describe themselves as deeply happy.

“Even when things aren’t rose-colored, there is an incredible sense of comfort in knowing that the problems we face today are simply part of the reality of living our dreams.”

Cumorah Academy helped prepare them for this transition in ways they never expected.

It provided the professional skills necessary to pursue new opportunities and the spiritual foundation needed to face change with confidence and faith.

Today, they no longer see themselves simply as a couple building careers.

They see themselves as a team pursuing a shared purpose.

Looking back, they recognize that Cumorah Academy was the bridge that helped them move from uncertainty into a future filled with possibility.

Lessons from Walter and Rocio’s Journey

Walter and Rocio’s story offers three powerful lessons for young adults seeking direction in their lives:

Growth begins when you step beyond your comfort zone.
The opportunities that change your life often begin with a simple decision to say yes.

Build meaningful relationships.
Success is rarely achieved alone. Mentors, friends, and supporters can help open doors you never imagined.

Lead by giving.
True leadership is not about what you receive but about how you serve and uplift others.

These principles continue to guide Walter and Rocio as they build their future together.
