For a group of Cumorah Academy students, May 31 became one of those unforgettable days.

They had the opportunity to attend the dedication of the new Prague Stake Center, a historic event for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Czech Republic. The dedication was presided over by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. 

This special gathering brought together members and friends of the Church from across the country to celebrate a significant milestone in Czech Church history. 

Cumorah Academy was honored to receive an invitation to attend the event. For many students, it was more than an opportunity to witness Church history. It was a chance to hear an Apostle of Jesus Christ in person, feel the Spirit, and strengthen their faith.

A Journey to a Historic Event

The day began early at Cumorah Academy. Students gathered for breakfast at 7:30 a.m. before departing campus at 8:20 a.m. Excitement filled the air as everyone prepared for the journey to Prague.

When they arrived around 10:00 a.m., many participants gathered outside under a tent where English translation was provided. The event lasted approximately two hours and included messages, testimonies, and the dedicatory prayer offered by President Uchtdorf.

The dedication itself represented another important chapter in the Church’s growth in the Czech Republic. President Uchtdorf has a special connection to the country. In 2016, he presided over the creation of the first stake in the Czech Republic, making this recent visit especially meaningful. 

A Message of Faith, Gratitude, and Missionary Work

Throughout the meeting, President Uchtdorf shared messages centered on Jesus Christ, gratitude, and the importance of sharing the gospel.

Students noticed his warmth and kindness. He greeted people personally, shook hands, and expressed genuine love for those who attended.

As Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, President Uchtdorf carries significant responsibilities within the Church. The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles serves as one of the highest governing bodies of the Church and helps oversee the worldwide growth and administration of the gospel.

Yet despite these responsibilities, students were touched by how approachable and caring he was throughout the event.

A Moment Students Will Never Forget

After the dedication concluded, President Uchtdorf exited the building and made his way toward his car. Before leaving, he stopped to greet people and shake hands.

For the Cumorah Academy students, this became the highlight of the day.

Many students had the opportunity to shake his hand personally. Some were overcome with emotion. Tears flowed as they reflected on the significance of the moment and the spiritual feelings they experienced.

The opportunity to meet a Church leader so closely created memories that will remain with them for years to come.

Encouraging Words from Sister Harriet Uchtdorf

The experience became even more meaningful when Sister Harriet Uchtdorf spent time speaking with students.

Her comments particularly touched several students from Venezuela. She shared words of hope and encouragement, reminding them that they would be blessed, successful, and happy. She also reassured them that everything would happen at the right time.

For students who had traveled far from home to study at Cumorah Academy, her message brought comfort, peace, and confidence in the future.

The group later gathered for photos together, preserving memories of a day filled with faith and inspiration.

“Elder Uchtdorf said something that made me finally make the choice to go on a mission.”

Ramón Sanhueza from Chile said:

“It was a blessing to see a prophet of God so close, even when I am so far from home in Chile. I felt the Spirit so strong.”

Thiago Kammholz from Brazil reflected:

“It was an amazing experience to come here to witness this event in person while being a student at Cumorah Academy.”
