Teaching is leadership in practice. It’s one of the most rewarding ways to grow, not only academically but also personally and spiritually. Teaching brings out the best in us, challenging us to rise to higher standards while lifting others along the way.
Interestingly, the teachers who leave a lasting impact on our lives are rarely the ones we remember solely for academic excellence. A real teacher is someone who sparks belief within us—someone whose encouragement and example change how we see ourselves and our potential. Whether it was a school teacher, a mentor, a family member, or even a friend, we’ve all experienced the influence of someone who taught us to believe in ourselves.
This spirit of inspiring others is exactly what motivated the Moroni Group and the Ruth Group, two student teams from Cumorah Academy, to step up and make a difference. Their mission? Teaching English to kids and teenagers in the nearby town of Vlašim. But what’s truly inspiring is that most of them are English learners themselves.

Teaching is Leadership in Practice — Even When You’re Still Learning
Many would hesitate at the thought of teaching a subject they are still mastering. But the truth is, you don’t need perfect English or a native accent to be a good teacher. In fact, teaching often accelerates your learning. It forces you to communicate clearly, stay focused, and truly understand the material.
At Cumorah Academy, students are encouraged to take bold steps like this—to embrace challenges that stretch their comfort zones. Teaching English as a non-native speaker isn’t just an academic task; it’s an act of leadership. It’s standing in front of others and offering what you know while remaining humble enough to keep learning.
Matheus, from Brazil and a member of the Moroni Group, shared how powerful the experience was for him. “It was awesome hearing from them and learning from them as well,” he said with a smile. His words reflect a truth every teacher eventually learns: teaching is a two-way street. You give, and you receive. You teach, and you learn.
Aria Collins from the Ruth Group, originally from the United States, added, “It was really fun and was beneficial for the kids.” Her words show that when you bring your heart to the classroom, the students feel it, and it makes a difference.
Cindy, the Wellness Intern at Cumorah, summed it up beautifully: “The students were super engaged and friendly! And we learned a lot together.”
This wasn’t just an exercise in English grammar or pronunciation. It was a real-life lesson in leadership, connection, and growth.

Leadership is About Creating Leaders
At its core, leadership isn’t about titles, power, or authority. It’s about influence. True leaders create other leaders. That’s exactly what happened when these students stepped into the role of teachers.
By showing courage, patience, and dedication, they became examples for the young students they were teaching. They proved that leadership doesn’t require perfection—it requires action. When you lead with humility and purpose, others follow.

This experience wasn’t just meaningful for the students in Vlašim. It left a deep impact on our Cumorah students as well. Many of them are now eager to seek out similar opportunities after the semester ends. Whether it’s teaching, volunteering, or mentoring, they’ve discovered that leadership happens every day—in small, meaningful ways.
And that’s exactly what Cumorah Academy is all about: leadership in practice. Our students don’t just learn theory from a textbook. They learn by doing. They teach as they learn and learn as they teach.
