How to Identify Opportunities in Your Life: Jonathan Christian

March 24, 2026  •  Author: marketing

How many opportunities are already around you?

Opportunities are everywhere. Yet many people struggle to see them.

Some wait for the perfect moment. Others feel unsure about which path to choose. Because of this, great chances for growth often pass unnoticed.

Learning how to identify opportunities in your life can change your future. Opportunities do not always look big or important at first. Many begin as small moments, simple conversations, or unexpected invitations.

Jonathan Christian Tripp, a student from Session 1 of 2026 at Cumorah Academy, shows how one decision can open new doors.

Growth Can Begin When Life Feels Comfortable

People often think change happens only during hard times. In reality, growth can start when life is already going well.

Christian grew up in different parts of the United States. He was born in the Michigan area. Later, his family lived in Texas and Arizona before settling in Provo, Utah.

Each move helped him adapt to new places and new people. Still, even while studying and working, he felt a desire to grow more.

He wanted an experience that would challenge him and help him move forward.

That desire led him to Cumorah Academy.

His story teaches an important lesson: identifying opportunities in your life starts with asking whether something better is possible.

Elder Carlos A. Godoy once taught:

“Just because things are going well does not mean that we should not from time to time consider whether there might be something better.”

This idea encourages us to look for growth, even when life feels stable.

Opportunities Often Start With Curiosity

Christian first learned about Cumorah Academy during a Young Single Adult (YSA) Conference. These events bring young adults together for activities, learning, and connection.

While walking through the conference, he noticed a booth.

“In one of those booths, I saw Cumorah Academy,” Christian says. “I had never heard about them before. Once I learned about their mission and values, I knew it was the place for me.”

That simple moment changed his direction.

Opportunities rarely arrive with loud announcements. Many appear quietly. They require curiosity and openness.

Learning how to identify opportunities in your life means paying attention to what sparks interest or excitement.

Sometimes one small step leads to a big change.

When Plans Begin to Change

Before joining the program, Christian planned to attend law school. His future seemed clear.

During his time at Cumorah Academy, however, new ideas began to grow. Through classes and mentorship, he discovered an interest in business.

“I was considering joining law school, but now I’m starting a business,” he explains. “There are a lot of things to think about.”

This experience shows that opportunities do not always confirm our plans. Sometimes they help us see a better path.

People who learn how to identify opportunities in your life stay open to change. They allow new experiences to shape their goals.

Learning Skills That Build Confidence

At Cumorah Academy, Christian studied Leadership, Business, and Public Speaking.

Each subject helped him grow in a different way.

Leadership classes taught responsibility and teamwork. Business lessons showed how ideas can become real projects. Public speaking helped him communicate clearly and confidently.

These skills did more than prepare him for work. They helped him understand his potential.

Education becomes powerful when it helps people discover who they can become. Environments focused on growth make it easier to practice how to identify opportunities in your life every day.

Opportunities Require Action

Seeing an opportunity is important. Acting on it is what creates change.

Christian could have ignored the conference booth. He could have stayed with his original plan. Instead, he chose to explore something new.

When asked if he would recommend the experience, his answer was clear:

“Yes, definitely!”

His story reminds us that opportunities reward action. Progress begins when we choose to step forward, even without complete certainty.

Learning how to identify opportunities in your life also means trusting yourself enough to try.

Your Opportunity Might Be Closer Than You Think

Many people believe opportunities belong to others. They think they need more experience or more confidence first.

But opportunities often appear before we feel ready.

They may look like a new program, a new friendship, or a new challenge. What matters is the decision to explore.

Christian’s journey shows that one choice can redirect a future.

Your next opportunity may already be waiting for you.
